What inspired Mildred to become an advocate for seniors?
Mildred’s passion for senior care was ignited during her time as a travel nurse. While working in a rural community, she noticed a continuous light shining in a home for three days, prompting her to investigate. There, she found an elderly man who had fallen and was unconscious. Providing him with care and assistance, Mildred realized seniors’ vulnerability and decided to specialize in senior care. Through her leadership roles in long-term care facilities, Mildred witnessed the lack of support for residents without family involvement, leading to a gap in advocacy for their needs. Similarly, families transitioning their loved ones into long-term care often face challenges, such as unrealistic expectations and mistrust of the care staff. Mildred recognized the need for inclusive partnerships that support both the facility and the client and their families, leading her to offer consulting services in this area.
